The metropolitan borough of Sandwell was named after Sandwell Priory, the ruins of which are in Sandwell Valley. It's made up of the old Black Country towns of Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich. The administrative centre of Sandwell is Oldbury.
