Rutland is the smallest of the traditional English counties, and has the second smallest population of any local authority district in the country (only the City of London has fewer residents). The county borders Leicestershire to the west, Lincolnshire to the north and east and Northamptonshire to the south. A third of the adult working population work in the public sector i.e. public administration, health and education and the armed forces. It is statistically one of the least deprived areas in the country. As of the 2001 census there were 4080 people aged over 70 living in Rutland, approximately 11.8% of the total population.
