North West England comprises five counties; Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. Its largest cities are Manchester and Liverpool. In all, about seven million people live in the region. The North West is famous for its textiles and sports clothing firms such as Reebok and JJB Sports, which are based in the region. Elsewhere, companies such as AstraZeneca have large plants. In addition to industry, 29% of the region is designated as national parkland or an area of outstanding beauty, including the Lake District. The North West is also famous for its music, including the Beatles and Oasis, and sport, with football teams including Manchester United and Liverpool known the world over.
