Gloucestershire comprises part of the Cotswold Hills, part of the flat fertile valley of the River Severn, and the Forest of Dean. The administrative centre of Gloucestershire is Gloucester. The county borders Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire to the north, Oxfordshire to the east, Wiltshire and Avon to the south and the Welsh county of Monmouthshire to the west. Essentially a rural county, Gloucestershire is well known historically for farming, forestry, horticulture and the wool trade.
