East of England, centred mainly around East Anglia – Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk – also includes the county of Essex. The East of England’s economy is largely rural, but there is a concentration of hi-tech companies in Cambridgeshire, sometimes referred to as ‘silicon fen’. The coast around Felixstowe and Harwich is also home to a number of logistics and transport companies. Tourism plays a large part in the regional economy, with tourists flocking to centres such as Cambridge and Great Yarmouth, while the fens is a magnet for barge holidays.
