Cleveland and Teesside care homes and Cleveland and Teesside nursing homes

The former county of Cleveland - based around the River Tees - was abolished in 1996 and replaced by its four unitary authorities; Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland. These four are sometimes collectively known as Greater Teesside. Other than the four boroughs, significant towns in the Cleveland and Teesside area include Darlington, Guisborough and Billingham.

As of the 2001 census there were 58903 people aged over 70 living in these four authorities, approximately 10.8% of the total population. Within the authorities there are 198 residential care and nursing care homes providing services for older people and people with learning disabilities.
