Bristol is the largest city in the Southwest of England with a population of about 410,000 and an urban area of some 550,000. It is the ninth most populous city in the UK. Today, Bristol is a centre for culture, employment and education in the region. The city initially grew around its port, which was in the city centre but has now moved to the Severn estuary coast at Avonmouth and Portbury.
