History

Sherwood House was opened in 1987.  It is named after William Sherwood who in his will of 1822 left his estate in trust for the benefit of deserving people of Walton.  The Charity of William Sherwood and others forms what is today Walton on Thames Charity.

Entry criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident or a former resident of the Borough of Elmbridge
  • Be living in a domestic environment
  • Be retired, over sixty years of age and of good character
  • Need, and able to benefit from, the level and type of care provided
  • Be able to maintain a degree of independence in their private life
  • Actively wish to move to Sherwood House

The Application Process

Application forms can be obtained from and should be returned to:

Nigel Lucas
Housing Manager
Walton on Thames Charity
Mayfield
74 Hersham Road
Walton on Thames
Surrey
KT12 5NU

Telephone: 01932 220242

Email: nlucas@waltoncharity.org.uk

Completed application forms are seen by a panel of the Charity's Trustees who will make a decision, based on the above criteria, whether your name can be added to the waiting list. Following this the Manager of Sherwood House will make an appointment to meet you to ensure your needs can be met at Sherwood House.

When vacancies becomes available you, along with other applicants on the waiting list, are invited to an interview with Trustees. We encourage you to bring along with you a member of your family, as it is important your decision to move to Sherwood House has your family's support. The interview is friendly and informal. Trustees use this opportunity to get to know you and make the difficult decision as to whom a particular vacancy may be offered. If you are not offered the first vacancy this simply means the offer has been made to another applicant in greater immediate need. You will be contacted again when another vacancy arises.

If you are successful in securing the vacancy you will be sent a formal offer letter which will confirm the details of you moving in and the payment arrangements.

Please note.  Sherwood House is happy to accept applicants whether they can fund their stay themselves or require assistance from Social Services.  If you know or think you will need help from Social Services to meet the fees, you or your family should make contact with the Housing Manager, Nigel Lucas, to discuss the arrangement.

Finally, I would encourage you to visit Sherwood House and see for yourself the accommodation and services on offer.  To make an appointment contact Sherwood House on 01932 221170.  Please mention that you saw these details on the Bettercaring web site when making enquiries.

We look forward to hearing from you.
