Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland comprises six counties: Antrim, Armagh, County Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone. These counties also make up two thirds of Ulster; the other three are in the Republic of Ireland. The country has a population of about 1.7 million. Like Scotland and Wales, Northern Ireland has its own devolved government, which was reinstated in May 2007 after years in limbo. The economy of the province, like several other parts of the UK, is now more services and tourism orientated rather than focused on heavy industry.
