Thornton Hill is a converted manor house built in the 1800s, with a modern extension. The home is owned and maintained by Anchor Trust, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of support, care and housing for older people. Thornton Hill is set in a village location in its own grounds with fantastic views over the Yorkshire Dales. Most of our rooms have lovely views of the well-kept garden, courtyard and countryside.
At Thornton Hill, we provide residential care for 52 older people (male and female) with increasing physical and mental frailty and varying disabilities. Staff are on hand 24-hours a day to provide care and support.
Accommodation • 46 single and 3 double en-suite rooms, all with tea-making facilities • Some rooms are specially designed for dementia needs • Rooms decorated to high standard • We encourage furniture and personal items to be brought in to make it your own home • Telephone point available in your room on request • Television point and connections for digital and satellite TV • Call bells in each room providing 24-hour help • There are 4 cosy lounges with TVs and stereos, and quiet areas for relaxing and reading • We have 2 conservatories with fantastic views of the countryside and garden • Bathrooms specially equipped so you can relax in comfort or enjoy a refreshing shower • Lifts to all floors
Dining • Choice of healthy and nutritious meals and any special dietary requirements catered for • You can choose from the menus each day • All main meals are served in the lounge areas, conservatories, or can be enjoyed in your own room
Leisure activities • Our in-house library has a variety of books to choose from including large print, audio and video tapes • Newspapers can be ordered and delivered daily to your room • Thornton Hill has a pleasant garden, courtyard, pond and sitting area, ideal for sitting out in the summer • We have a hairdressing and beauty salon and activity room • Stereo systems are available • Residents run the in-house shop, which sells various items for your convenience • Games available such as carpet bowls and board games, etc. • Regular events and entertainment are organised at our home each week by our Activities Co-ordinator
