The Chestnuts is a family owned and run Care Home situated in delightful grounds on the edge of the Kent village of Meopham near Gravesend, a short distance from shops and public transport.

We have been providing quality 24 hours short term, long term and respite care to elderly ladies and gentlemen since 1983. Our aim is to create a relaxed, homely atmosphere where people who live here can do so with dignity. We take a modern approach to retirement, the emphasis being on the individual and their needs.

We cater for up to 29 residents in a home that has been carefully modernised, extended and adapted to make living easier, while being beautifully maintained with many features of the original Victorian house preserved. Each resident is treated as an individual and able to exercise choice in all aspects of their care. Accommodation is over 3 floors all serviced by a lift, the majority of our rooms have en-suite facilities; all have their own wash basin. For added security and comfort each room is equipped with an emergency call system, smoke alarm and individual heating control.

The cuisine is varied and carefully prepared to serve individual tastes. Particular attention is paid to those who require special diets, whether for health, medical or religious reasons.

We have a well stocked library that is updated regularly and a variety of activities are organised on a regular basis. Regular visits are made by a hairdresser and chiropodist and arrangements are made for opticians and dentists to visit as required. The local Anglican Vicar calls each month to give communion and clergy of other denominations will call if asked.

The Chestnuts offers the highest standard of care from staff that are carefully selected. They are chosen for their understanding, conscientiousness and reliability but also for their sensitivity to the needs of the elderly. A personal friendly atmosphere between staff and residents is encouraged at all times.

We place a strong emphasis on staff training and encourage staff to develop the skills needed for the job. All staff attend regular training programmes and are required to achieve their NVQ 2, senior staff must also complete their NVQ 3. Staff also receive in-house training on topics that are relevant to the needs of our clients.

Care Homes are inspected by CSCI to assess the quality of the service being provided to the residents. This is the main tool used to raise standards in care services. After each inspections visit, most of which are unannounced, a report is written by the Inspector detailing how well the home meets the National Minimum Standards. Our latest report can be viewed on the CSCI website.

We appreciate that choosing a Residential Care Home, like choosing any new home, is a major decision that takes time and careful consideration. We therefore encourage people to visit us so they can meet our staff and residents, seek advice and ask questions. This will help them to make an informed judgement as to whether our home is suitable for their needs.
