The East Midlands is the fourth largest region in England, comprising Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and most of Lincolnshire. The region is possibly best known for the legend of Robin Hood, who is said to have lived in Sherwood Forest near Nottingham. Its other attractions include the Peak District, Lincoln Cathedral and Silverstone motor racing circuit. Up until late last century, the mining industry was the lifeblood of the region, but since then the East Midlands has moved to a more service and technology-based economy.
