The East of England, centred mainly around East Anglia – Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk – also includes the counties of Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. The latter three are also sometimes thought of as part of the Southeast or Home Counties. The East of England’s economy is largely rural, but there is a concentration of hi-tech companies in Cambridgeshire, sometimes referred to as ‘silicon fen’. The coast around Felixstowe and Harwich is also home to a number of logistics and transport companies. Tourism plays a large part in the regional economy, with tourists flocking to centres such as Cambridge and Great Yarmouth, while the fens is a magnet for barge holidays.
