Traditional Nursing Values within a Modern Caring Environment

Acton Care Centre is a purpose built nursing home opened 4 years ago but steeped in the charm and tradition of the original Acton Hospital. We offer accommodation for 125 patients and welcome private and publicly funded arrangements.

Acton Care Centre is provided with numerous special features to ensure that the highest quality care is provided and maintained. The modern design of our home enables easy access by all of our patients to all floors, the large gardens and the car park. Each patient bedroom is fully furnished with an en-suite toilet, wash hand basin with power points for television and additional electrical appliances. Hot water supplied to the bedroom en-suites, communal bathrooms, toilet and showers does not exceed 43c to reduce the risk of injury.

At Acton Care Centre your relative's care and comfort is our concern. That's why we take pride in our gardens that provide a pleasant environment to sit and enjoy the surroundings. Catering at Acton is of the highest standard as we offer a restaurant style service. Our catering manager and his team give a very personal service to each patient to ensure that special diets and individual choices are respected.

Activities and special events are arranged monthly and families and friends are encouraged to participate. Our monthly newsletter keeps everyone up to date with our programmes.

We work in partnership with the Ealing Primary Care Trust to ensure that other health care professionals such as General Practitioners, Dietician, Speech Therapist, Optician and Dentist are able to support our patients for all other health care needs. We retain a private Chiropodist (for which there is a charge) and a Physiotherapist to encourage mobility and independence.

Over the past two years Acton Care Centre has sought to improve its understanding and care of patient's suffering from advanced and incurable disease. We have increased our palliative care beds to twenty and a further five beds for patients who may require complex high dependency care such as the care of the patient with Tracheotomy.

We are not a hospice but we seek to complement the services offered by them.

We offer a spectrum of inpatient palliative care facilities that reflects the needs of patients and their families at the time they seek our help.

All nursing units are managed by a senior nurse who leads a team of experienced nurses, overseas nursing students and health care assistants.

Our Chaplain visits regularly and there is a multi faith centre for quiet reflection. We are ably supported by visiting external health professionals such as Macmillan Nurses.

We continue to provide care for elderly frail patients suffering from dementia and we offer a choice of placement to patients and their relatives over five separate units.

Acton Care Centre is part of the Catalyst Housing Group (not for profit) and is overseen by the Vintage Care Limited Board. Our Chairman Mr Rod Cahill a well-known figure on the Housing Association scene visits very regularly and takes a very active interest in each individual patient who chooses to stay at Acton.

The day to day operation of Acton is led by a very experienced management team led by Mary McLaren - General Manager and Sujjata Singh - Registered Manager and Clinical Director. They are both Registered Nurses and are committed to patient centred nursing and research based nursing practice.

Quality care is directly linked to regular training and updating of staff. We are validated by the Thames Valley University to provide experience for overseas nurses and nursing students. Seventy five percent of our care staff have achieved NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Care in the past year. All our catering staff are fully trained in food hygiene and food safety and we have a team of qualified first aiders and competent facilities staff.

Choosing a nursing home is usually the result of a dramatic change in lifestyle or a sudden crisis involving a family member. Finding information is not always easy but finding the right information can be very difficult.

Why not contact Sylwia Grzelak - Patient Affairs Officer or Sujjata Singh or Mary McLaren on 020 8896 5600 and make an appointment for an informal discussion or visit. We would be happy to send you a brochure on request.

We may not have all the immediate answers but we are very happy to provide you with help and information in your decision making.
