Elderwood is a purpose built home, circa 1991. It is owned and maintained by Anchor Trust, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of support, care and housing for older people. Set in a quiet location in its own attractive grounds, Elderwood is close to the local shops, pubs and post office. Most rooms have views of the well-kept gardens.
At Elderwood, we provide residential care for 40 older people (male and female) with varying abilities and for those who want to maintain their independence but now find that they need some practical and personal care. Staff are on hand 24-hours a day to provide care and support.
Accommodation • Single en-suite rooms with WC and washbasin • Telephone point in all bedrooms for your own direct line • Television points and connections for digital and satellite TV • Call bells in each room providing 24-hour help • All rooms centrally heated • Rooms decorated to a high standard • We encourage personal items to be brought into enhance your room • Cosy lounges – one on each floor with a TV. There is also a sun lounge situated on the ground floor that is a quiet room for reading etc. • Fully-fitted kitchenettes on each floor where you and your visitors can make drinks • Bathrooms and showers specially equipped so you can relax in comfort • Lift to all floors
Dining • There is a dining room on each floor • You can choose from daily menus • Breakfast is served in the dining room or you can enjoy breakfast brought to your room • Choice of healthy and nutritious meals and any special dietary requirements catered for
Leisure activities • Darlington Housebound Library Service calls every 4 weeks. Residents may take as many books or audio tapes as they require for a 4 week period • Newspapers can be ordered and delivered daily to your room • Elderwood has a pleasant garden area • CD/stereo and DVD players are provided in all lounges • Board games, carpet bowls, etc. are available • Our shop service sells confectionery, toiletries and greetings cards • We have a hairdressing salon • Regular events and entertainment are organised at our home each week

Health and personal care • GP available on request • Our Hairdresser visits 2 days a week • A Chiropodist visits once every 4 weeks or on request • The District Nurse visits by arrangement • The Physiotherapist visits by arrangement
